In Art 2, in addition to main art projects, students work on a series of sketchbook assignments called, Menu. I provide students with a Menu of choices, and they get to choose the assignments that look most interesting to them. With the overwhelming shift to online learning, I offered the Menu to students as extra credit.
In addition to the Menu, I offered a few other extra credit options, including finishing un-finished art work from school, the Getty Challenge, and free cards. I loved watching extra credit projects roll in because it felt like students were creating art at home because they love to do it. I've been so incredibly blown away and impressed by the work of Art 2 students. Nice work you guys!! For this project students created a drawing or painting that in some way reflects their identity. I was really impressed with the way they turned out and it was fun learning about students along the way. Thanks for sharing!
For this project students learned a bit about artist Wassily Kandinsky, an abstract artist who;s work is inspired by music. Students created a non-objective drawing or painting at home. Once again, I'm super impressed at their work ethic and commitment to art at home. Nice job Art 2!
This was the first project we did online. For this project we learned about appropriation, how you start with an existing idea and make it better. For this project students chose a piece of artwork from art history and altered it in some way to make it their own. I was impressed how students worked hard at home and completed this assignment. The students were super creative with their ideas, Do you recognize where any of the pieces derived from? Nice job Art 2!
I am very excited for this semester in Art 2. We are going to have a lot of fun! Please review the disclosure for more information on the course.

Each day, students draw in their sketchbooks for the first 10 minutes of class. I have provided them with a Menu of choices, and they get to choose the assignments that look most interesting to them. Here are a few sketches that I thought really hit it out of the park! Nice work!
For this project we talked about creating contrast in a work of art. As one of the final projects this year, I wanted to challenge students to paint a portrait. Students chose a portrait and they used editing tools to help break down the image into layers. After the image was broken down into layers, students used acrylic paint to paint their portrait. These turned out super cool! Nice work Art 2!
For this unit we talked about how creating emphasis can make your art more interesting and can draw the viewer in. Emphasis is an area or object that draws attention and becomes a focal point. Students were challenged to create a clay creation that has a point of emphasis. I think these projects turned out super cool!
