On-line school has presented its own unique challenges, but it did not stop these students from completing their work! This was the first art project done online. For this assignment students explored various types of line. Nice work students! I'm super impressed.

A line is a point moving in space. A dot in motion. Lines can be very expressive, which results in them having different characteristics, emotions, styles, and unlimited variation. For this project students chose a characteristic and portrayed the characteristic with the use of LINE.
PRINT! PRINT! PRINT-MAKING! Printmaking is where an artist creates an image using one material by carving lines into that material base. In Art 1 we used foam plates. This is called relief printing. Once lines have been carved you ink the surface and print! A line is a point moving in space. A dot in motion. Lines can be very expressive, which results in them having different characteristics, emotions, styles, and unlimited variation. For this project students created a diptych, they chose two opposing characteristics and portrayed each characteristic with the use of LINE.

Once lines have been carved you ink the surface and print! We made a huge mess and had a lot of fun. INK EVERYWHERE! For this assignment students explored various types of line. We discovered a line is much more than 'just a boring old line'. Lines can express emotion and also become quite interesting when drawn in unique ways. Students also tried to create contrast between busy and calm lines to make their subject matter POP! Nice work Art 1

Our first Unit in Art 1 was all about LINE! We talked about different types of line, but focused on contour and blind contour lines. Students took a leap of faith as they attempted a blind contour self-portrait! That means they could not look at their drawing while they were drawing. This exercise made many students feel uncomfortable, but hopefully taught them a valuable lesson about line, hand-eye coordination, and true observation.
